Night and Snow are Haze's parents. They are the leaders of the pack, the Alpha male and female. They hold their tails high. Their eyes glow. They are father and mother to all the wolves in their pack.
Night and Snow are Haze's parents. They are the leaders of the pack, the Alpha male and female. They hold their tails high. Their eyes glow. They are father and mother to all the wolves in their pack. This includes the pups born in the spring a few months ago, and also the grown wolves born the spring before. . .
As Night and Snow and the older members of the pack venture far from the den to locate food for the family, Haze is left to tend to the pups. That's when he hears the sounds of a rival wolf pack. And they're getting closer. As the den keeper it's up to Haze to defend the pups — if he can.
Such life in a wolf pack is vividly portrayed in this lavishly illustrated picture book by award-winning Western author and illustrator, Georgia Graham.

"Young animal lovers will enjoy the action and suspense of the pack's hunting forays and the way Haze fends off a rival wolf pack to protect the puppies left in his care while the others are off on a subsequent hunting expedition. . . The choice of a grey, brown and blue palette with shadowy backgrounds of mountains, trees and water makes readers part of the scene. . . The double spread where the members of the pack lift their massive heads to "howl in harmony" into the night is glorious. When Wolves Howl could be used as a group read-aloud either for its dramatic storytelling impact or as part of a primary classroom unit on mammal behaviour.
